This is an interesting article that advocates for a "moralizing" approach to behaviour change in the face of COVID-19. Both second hand smoke and drunk driving campaigns have turned what was once considered a "stupid" behaviour to one that was considered immoral, and in doing so, they changed society's perceptions of what is and what is not acceptable behaviour. In trying to encourage people to wear masks and socially distance, there may be value in applying that same approach, since behaviours in the face of COVID-19 may hold life and death consequences.
