Vacancy Announcement
Programme Officer,
Social and Behavioural Change Communications

IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, is seeking a qualified individual to join our Asia Regional Office.

This exciting opportunity would suit candidates with experience delivering behavioural change projects, or with skills designing creative communications for social or environmental impact in Asia.

Based in Bangkok, this is a key position within a professional, geographically dispersed but inter-connected team. The ideal candidate will thrive on delivering a high-profile portfolio of work co-ordinated by TRAFFIC across Asia. Focal countries include China, Thailand and Viet Nam, although engagement with other countries may be required. Frequent travel should be expected.

A focal responsibility will be to support a Social and Behavioural Change (SBCC) Community of Practice (CoP - here), to embed behavioural science principles in conservation communications. Priority deliverables will build on the Changing Behaviour to Reduce Demand for Illegal Wildlife Products Workshop (here), and contribute to the USAID-supported Wildlife TRAPS project (here).

Although the deliverables themselves are fixed, the post-holder will be able to shape and develop content according to CoP needs and opportunities. The ability to manage working relationships and regular engagement with CoP members from a variety of professional backgrounds e.g. behavioral economists, social psychologists, consumer analysts, luxury goods sector retailers, as well as creative brand management, advertising and marketing specialists will be essential.

Opportunities to convene such experts will need to be deftly handled, including through delivering an exciting event series that employs a Hot House style approach to identifying innovative solutions in changing consumer choice. Commitments already exist to deliver Expert Roundtables e.g. to consider alternative products that could be marketed instead of elephant ivory, Tiger bones and rhino horn.

Applications from those who meet the requirements but may not have not worked in the nature conservation sector before will be welcomed. Further information regarding other duties and responsibilities, are available in the online application system (see link below).

REQUIREMENTS

* Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in behavioural change particularly in the Asian context, including successful implementation of projects;
* Professional qualifications in Behavioural Science, Communications, Social Marketing or a related field;
* Proven skills as a researcher and analyst, responsible for identifying evidence and literature on behavioural change issues, and reviewing these to synthesise key findings and present these in a succinct format;
* Excellent English language skills (verbal/written) and fluent in another relevant language;
* A self-directed strategic and lateral thinker who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment with a culturally diverse team.

CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATION: 23 June 2017
