Waste Management Research in the form of Waste Audits at Quest University Canada

Hello,
I am in my second year of my undergrad at Quest University Canada and I recently got funding to research campus waste management through conducting waste audits. This question isn't strictly related to CBSM, but I am curious if anyone can provide experiences, contacts, or regulation information related to auditing residential waste. I am particularly concerned with privacy statements from residential waste, as well as acquiring the necessary safety and Personal Protection Equipment for my volunteers. I live in British Columbia, Canada, and I understand that regulations will be different across the provinces.
Alternatively, if anyone has had experience gathering university students and somehow convincing them to sort garbage, I would love any insights (I already have my budget allocation for food rewards). Quest students are unique because the majority of us are internally driven to pursue our own goals, and I am highly aware of this in considering my marketing strategies.
